The periosteum is a dense connective tissue that envelopes bones. It plays an important role in bone regeneration due to its rich cellular composition and vascularity. In oral surgical osseous regeneration, prevention of fibroblast infiltration into surgical sites is crucial for successful osseous regeneration. Utilizing the periosteum as a natural barrier membrane to inhibit fibroblast ingrowth to facilitate optimal bone regeneration adds to the options for the dental surgeon.
